I love checking out The Sartorialist for fashion inspiration, especially when he's in Italy and France. He shot the woman above for Style.com while in Paris for fashion week and to me she is the epitome of chic. She looks like a cross between Carolina Herrera and Catherine Deneuve. I love her entire outfit from the belted dress to the black tights, the fabulous coat, the big bold gold jewelry to the YSL bag. She is perfection and how I hope I look when I a woman of a certain age...elegant and self assured...and maybe also living in City of Lights. I mean New York is fun and all but nothing beats the glamour of Par-ee. Right?Sunday, October 7, 2007

And the pinky ring is not bad either! We are in agreement. I hope I can swing it someday.
yes, his photo does capture the same for me...thanks!
Why is it women look so fantastic in France and Italy - elegant, stylish, sexy, vital! Diane Von Furstenburg also, always looks great. I am a New Yorker as well, yet alot of women look alike here- try too hard to look "young", bad ( meaning not subtle) plastic surgery and wearing same designer bags etc, etc, etc.
Love your blog-
A refreshing post HC and well said. Everything about the woman in the photo says perfection, BUT it’s not as if she is trying and that's the key!
Kindred spirits... she has my bag.
French woman don't seem to dress for men the way that some aerican women do. The seem to dress for themselves first and men are the afterthought. I like that.
that is nati abascal, she is a spanish societylady and a style icon in europe.
still super beautiful.
Tres chic. I would love to look like her years down the road. Actually, I would love to look like her now!
Katie, I definitely noticed the pinkie ring! I think that's why I thought of Carolina Herrera. It seems like something she would wear.
Hi Rita, thanks for stopping by! I'm glad you agree!
Linda, I agree. I think European woman focus on skincare and less on heavy makeup or plastic surgery like Americans. They grow old gracefully and are admired for it, as they should be.
Ronda, it does look effortless, like if we saw her next year, she'd probably look very similar. Women look most elegant when they find their own style and stop chasing trends!
Decorno, they definitely dress for men but it's so much more subtle. It's the mysteriousness instead of an in your face sex appeal that I like.
Miss Greyhound, thank you so much for telling us who she is! I had a feeling she was someone special! So much fun to find out just who!
BA, I hope I am on my way to looking like her! At least, I try!
Right! She is stunning, and I think it's definitely her confident air that adds to her look. I love the satorialist too, always great photos, and very inspirational.
Wow. It is her self assuredness that wins me over. One can either wear accessories and apparel - or be worn by them. She certainly outshines her fabulous YSL bag. Very nice selection.
Don't you envision her living in a fabulous Paris apartment - occupying an entire floor of a building with a fabulous view of the Seine?
*sigh* Paris it is.
Suzy, I think it's confidence that most American women are sadly lacking. Probably due to the magazines. Makes me want to move to Europe even more!
Franki, she definitely looks like she lives the good life. I think all of us bloggers should retire to Paris someday. Wouldn't that be fun ;-)
The woman in question is Nati Abascal. Ms. Abascal is from Sevilla, Spain and was a fashion model in the seventies. At one point, during her former marriage, she held the noble title of La Duquesa de Feria. She continually appears on the Spanish best-lists. She also has two attractive and single sons.
Totally see the Catherine Deneuve in her facial features. Have you seen the photos of Deneuve for Louis Vuitton, she is sitting on a trunk at a train station. Really beautiful, but most photos she is in are.
