Flawless

Sometimes I don't really care if a movie is good as long as it looks fabulous. Such is the case with the new Demi Moore and Michael Caine movie Flawless in theatres March 28. Right now, it seems to be getting mixed reviews so it could actually turn out to great but I want to see it regardless. Billed as a "diamond heist thriller set in swinging 1960's London," it's the costumes that I'm dying to see. I'm sure you could dress Demi Moore in paper bag and she'd look amazing but she looks even more "flawless" in this film. I also hope the clothing will also influence fashion designers to bring back the waist and ladylike dressing because no one looks flawless in a shapeless shift dress.

Red nails, black pearls, a silk blouse and horned rimmed glasses... it's off to a good start! Thanks for the heads up about this film.

Here here to that! Gotta love Demi, she's a total glamourpuss, and I love her.

This might be a thriller but it is also definitely in the "Clothes and Lifestyle" category that should really officially exist. I admit that I will be seeing this one purely for Ms. Moore's clothing (and that hair)!

Looks like one that will please the eye merely by the settings and costume design... and Michael Caine is rarely a disappointment. Remember Cider House Rules? I have added to my Netflix queue.

I feel the same way. If I'm swept away by the style and lighting, I'll still be enthralled. I loved Great Expectations for the same reason (though many people loathed it).

Karina, I agree. And I can't wait to see this fabulous looking movie!

So Chic Darling, I think I might have to go on Friday to see it!

Leslie Rogers, Don't you think we are ready for a change? I'm tired on teeny bopper fashions and am looking forward to more elegant and ladylike styles.

Suzy, I want to be Demi Moore when I grow up! She's so beautiful and not too skinny. I think that is key.

Alice, I was noticing the hair too. It looks like her own but I don't remember her cutting it that short. If it's a wig, then they did a great job with it.

Tea or Wine, Michael Caine is one of my favorites. Have you ever seen Dressed to Kill? Talk about a thriller!

Jane, I loved the stories about the "costumes" in Great Expectations. Donna Karen supplied much of the clothing and for some reason, Gwenyth Paltrow wears green throughout the movie.

Jane and Habitually Chic: The only reason I watch Great Expectations is for Gwyneth's wardrobe. It is fabulous.

Remember the Donna Karan dress she wears when Ethan dramatically takes her from the restaurant was also wonderfully worn by Demi Moore in the ad campaign.....

It's such a small world.

I must have missed Dressed to Kill...will add to the queue as well. ty

I love hats and some of the vintage glam look - but there is something to be said about loose fitting things - we aren't all insanely small.

I think Demi made some sort of deal with the devil to stay so young looking.

I was just speaking with a co-worker on how almost every woman I talk to longs for that style to return. We just watched Charlotte Gray. Boring. Fantastic clothes on Cate Blanchett- stunning hats, and jackets- tailored to suit & the shoes were quite sensible & clever.

Why do they keep putting out crap that makes everyone look preggers?

Alice, I also love the art in Great Expectations which was done by Francesco Clemente. I think I may have to watch it again this week.

Tea or Wine, It's an edge of your seat movie! And Faye Dunaway looks amazing too!

Susan, No more shapeless clothes for me this summer!

BA, I was just thinking about how great Demi looks but I think that's because she can afford to. There are so many amazing preventative wrinkle treatments that don't involve plastic surgery but they are certainly not cheap. But it could also be the fact that she's married to a much younger man too ;-)

Katie, Last summer I wore a few loose dresses and while comfortable, they were not flattering so I will only be wearing dresses that give me a waist from now on!

My theory about why loose baggy dresses were so popular is that they were so easy to sew. It takes more work to create a flattering dress that has a waistband and darts. I hope more retailers realize that we want real clothes again!

I agree with you!!! I'm the exact same way..... hence, why I looooved "Down With Love" as well as "Devil Meets Prada." Both movies were "ehhhh" for me, in terms of plot.... but the fashion/set/cast looked FAB and that made it all worth it. I bought BOTH!!! LOL!

Great blog, i love this!!! Feel free to come check me out sometime as well!

I just looked at your post again and I peed a little!

In the still shots, Demi slightly resembles Lady Bird Johnson, or is it just the coincidence of the same era?

I saw this movie on Pay Per View a few weeks ago. I guess it must have been a sneak preview. It was actually pretty good! And you are right...the fashions really made it for me. Demi looked great, although a little older. It was fun to see her in the movie in her "elderly" make-up when she is recapping her story to a young reporter. Interesting viewpoint on the struggles women faced in the workplace during that era, as well as the diamond market.

KatieDid, OMG! Thank you about telling me that it's on Pay Per View! I so did not want to go over the the west side to see it in the theatre so I'm so excited that I can watch it in the comfort of my own home! Of course, I'll miss the popcorn but I'm sure I'll get over it! Thanks!!!

Please.... please.... all of you... shout it from the rooftops. Email designers. Commission custom clothing if you can. Elegance is attainable if only we keep fighting the good fight!

Easy and Elegant Life, I never shop much at Banana these days but I went in yesterday and found the most flattering Linen A line Dress for summer, http://www.bananarepublic.com/browse/product.do?cid=39292&pid=553631. I swear it makes me look 10 pounds thinner and will look great with flat or high heeled sandals. I am never wearing a baggy babydoll dress ever again! Althouhg, if I can I might try to belt some of them to wear this summer. We'll see how that goes.
