The Tao of Steve

I love Steve McQueen. He is the epitome of cool. A man's man who loved to drive fast cars and have a good time. I even dated a few boys just because they reminded me of him. So when I was at the Taschen warehouse sale yesterday, I just had to pick up a book of photographs of him taken by his friend William Claxton for just $9.99. Because they were friends, Claxton had close access and his photos have a sense of intimacy that today's paparazzi photos will never have. Claxton was also married to model Peggy Moffitt who did a few photo shoots with the actor. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I did!

I have always loved Steve McQueen and when I was younger was told I look like Ali McGraw. I of course thought that gave me some affinity to Steve. A shame he died so young. I suppose that makes him forever cool, forever young. I think he represents the ultimate in a sexy man - he had that kind of appeal that you couldn't necessarily put your finger on, but oozed from his pores. Can you tell I'm a fan!

Yum! Steve McQueen on a Sunday. Better than champers!
I have to say, the ONLY modern Hollywood men who come close to a McQueen reaction from me are Clive Owen and Jon Hamm (from AMC's Mad Men).

Thanks for sharing the great photos. I especially like the one of him next to the Ferrari.

Interesting how so many of these photos were taken from a high camera angle - looking down. Esp. love the first one.

A Lady, we have the same taste in men! And, Marie Louise, if you look like Ali, I'm so jealous! She was the epitome of cool and beautiful.

Here's a funny story for you. When I started as an intern at my company that I've been with now 13 years. They had me contact William Claxton about purchasing a photograph that we needed for an ad. I had no idea who the guy was at the time I was so green in the world of design! Turns out we did purchase from him and I had a brush with greatness.

how awesome are both of them?

You have great taste in men. I already have that book and it's one of my faves. I didn't even mind paying full price. Am very jealous you got to go to a Taschen warehouse sale, as it os one of my favorite imprints. They don't have such things in Denver. Ah, well.

on't even get me started on McQueen. I've posted on him many times myself. The amazing part of his acting - from Papillon to the Great Escape - is how very LITTLE he says on screen. His eys and subtle facial expressions do most of the work for him.

I do love the pix you uncovered of him. Such an icon.

I just finished watching the originial Thomas Crowne Affair this weekend for the 10th time and I'm smitten! I love the strength of his hands in the last picture...one of the 1st things I notice on a man.

Where was the Taschen warehouse sale? Who knew...I saw the Thomas Crowne Affair too and it's still perfection. Course he doesn't exactly sound like a piece of cake to live with..keeping his ex on the premises after he married Ali..Hmmm

Adore Steve...normally I'm atracted to darkcolour haired men and brown eyes but Steve's the only blond and blue eyed one I fancied! Great actor and was full of life to the fullest: such a shame he died so young and of cancer!I love the last picture, where he's licking his fingers from the doughnut! Yummy, him and the doughnut! ;P
