Montauk The End

I've always admired the design aesthetic of designers Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch of Roman and Williams so I was in heaven when I found their Montauk Long Island home in World of Interiors September 2008 issue. It's definitely got a little flea market feel and Robin says that when they go to the Paris flea market, "we split up, but beforehand we agree to pick out three things each. In the end, two out of the three things we find are always the same." I wish I could find a straight man who wants to go to the flea market with me! Any takers?!

wow- that is bohemian-eclectic-beach house perfection. just beautiful.

and chic, all my straight guy friends like to go to the flea markets! at least, if their wives/girlfriends are dragging them, they are doing a good job of pretending they enjoy it.

maybe it's a west coast thing? our fleamarkets are huge out here and for every stall selling china and costume jewelry, there's another with vintage sporting goods, or advertising stuff, or mid-century barware, you know, "guy stuff". sumpthin' for everybody!

What a beautiful home. I wanna move in right now! So bright and comfortable.
Growing up, one my dad's "standy by" activities for us kids was to take us to the flea market and let us run around. Good times. Now, as an adult, I still love going annd perusing for hours. I just wish there were more of them here!

Well, the gays are more fun anyways - stick to us! Save the straight guys for friday nights but leave the saturday morning fleamarkets to the gays!

I second 'Change's' opinion! I love my husband but we might actually need couples therapy if I had to drag him around flea markets on a regular basis... not to mention the few times we have gone together he falls in love with a proceeds to purchase large items which I would never choose if left to my own devices!

Maison21 - I was at Christies the other night discussing with a friend that sometimes the foreign men are into art and antiques but definitely not American men. They want to be drinking beer and watching football on the weekends not going to flea markets. Too bad.

Be the Change - Gays are more fun but I need to find a straight man to marry :-(

The Sweet Life - maybe that is his way of getting out of going to any more flea markets! Ha!

If you're looking to meet straight men, you shouldn't have gone into decorating.

Great post HC. I love the Morrocn rug with the tree stump side table and the galvanized pendant is to die for!

I hope you found some great shades for those lamps you found with Eddie. when in doubt there is always Gracious or Just Shades (if you can endure the SoHo crowds)

Joslyn - they said the first thing they did was take down the sheetrock which they hate! I think it's kind of interesting to see the wood everywhere.

Anonymous - I may not meet straight men but I do meet some ridiculously wonderful and creative people and I wouldn't have it any other way!!!

Thanks Haute Decor! I haven't had time to find a shade yet. I was thinking of walking over to Oriental Lampshade since they are close but they are so cranky there that I cringe even thinking about it so I may have to lug the marble lamp downtown. I might be better off. I was also thinking that we should grab a drink sometime since you are in the city too! I pulled the Kravet Sestina fabric that I saw on your site and might use it for some pillows!

P.S. Thanks for the comment to Anonymous too! At least they didn't tell me to get bangs like the other loser did yesterday!

The black trim on the windows is very good looking.

that black and white rug, the very billy baldwin one, seems to be the next big trend. It's popping up more often than the madeline wienrib zig zag one in the glossies lately!
