Green Acres

Everyone knows that I'm a city girl but all the lovely country houses I've been seeing lately might cause me to reconsider. I could picture myself being very happy on this Hudson Valley Farm by architect Gil Schafer. Of course, that would be after I stopped at Barbour to pick up the necessary wardrobe items like Wellies and waxed cotton jackets. Then you could keep Manhattan and just give me that countryside!

sorry- new york is where i'd rather stay. the grounds are gorgeous of course, but what do you do when you are done looking at the view? drive on down to hooterville for a sody pop? plus, i get allergic smelling hay...

(sorry, i couldn't help myself from going with the green acres theme).

This house is exquisite and makes me, a London girl, long for the countryside too. I love the antler wall light, and the mirror in the drawing room with its soft blue furnishings and pale terracotta walls. Not to mention the fabulous scenic wallpaper in the dining room.
Thanks for a glorious post.

You do realize what you will be giving up!! Are you ready to trade your small city apartment for a 7000 square foot house in rolling country side? ( fully furnished of course)
A no-brainer! In a second!
I'd settle for just that barn, al ready!!
Love your posts and dreams.

Hi Heather, I love this house! The understated elegance--thought it was an old Federal Period house at first. Love the photo of the horn sconces coupled with the horn beakers--the antique furnishings are to die for..perfect! Thank you.

I think I vote for both. City penthouse and country manor. A girl can dream, right?

Boy, I have to say.... I like what was done in every room. The color of the wall, the decor.... everything. But, I have to interject and say, if you want Wellies and Waxed Barn Jackets, well made and at a decent price, bag NYC and call LLBean. They are Maine and they are the best!
How's that for a promo, and I don't even work for them? :)

Is it odd that even though I love in Southern California, I really want a mudroom? Love these pictures!

Beautiful house which need a large family, a few dogs, lots of friends around, being a painter or a writer...otherwise I would stay in town to enjoy the energy of it. I agree the perfect solution will be to have a flat in town and a mansion in the country.

All I need is that mud room - and that view, and that dog. Pretty sweet spot to come in and wipe the muck off my boots.
Looks like a big shoe shine, wonder what it takes to run a place like that, the taxes, the electricity. I wonder!

I wasn't convinced until I saw the view. Once I pulled my tongue up off the floor I was able to write this comment. Beautiful view, really.

I know I have no desire for any dwelling further out than a suburb (I need civilization!), but it'd be nice to have a family member with a sprawling estate like this. The kind of place you go during lazy holiday weekends and Christmas. I imagine it's beautiful to see that pastoral views when it snows.
