Donna Karan at Home

In honor of fashion week, I'm going to be posting some of my favorite fashionable interiors this week. Donna Karan is celebrating her 25th anniversary of her company and putting on her fashion show so I couldn't think of a better fashion designer to start things off. Her 7,000 SF space on Central Park West is a little too urban zen modern for me but that's what makes it so perfect for the woman who counts the Dali Lama among her closest acquaintances. "My home celebrates my family and friends, art and culture, and it holds the memories that are a part of who I am," say Ms. Karan. That Francis Bacon is pretty memorable too! Here's to another 25 years Donna!

Agreed that it is a bit too zen for my taste but completely understandable as her spirituality and exploration of Eastern religion is what healed her after her husband's death.

First though: Oh my God, she has a Francis Bacon! Second thought: Who cares what else she has. What more do you need?

She probably would kick poor Francis to the curb for his housekeeping, though. Our dear Francis was not zen at all:

I love this apartment. I do wonder though if she ever uses that bath in full view of the neighbours?

I'm not into the Zen look but I think this is done beautifully.

And that black wall behind the banquette is perfection.

What an amazing home!! I particularly liked the wall length shelving. In some spaces it could look crowded/cluttered, but the black on black scheme seemed to reduce any of that.

I absolutely love her apartment. i have always liked her fashion and she has such a refined sense of style. This apartment touches a cord in me and i could see myself leaving in such a serene environment. I always design very minimalist bathrooms and hers is a gem. francine

that top image is stop-you-in-your-tracks stunning. the scale of the painting is pitch-perfect for that spot.
