Shape Up!

I have been anxiously awaiting the April 2010 issue of Vogue so I'll have something good to read on the plane Thursday. It's the annual shape issue which usually declares any woman over a size 2 curvy and this one might be even more depressing since model Giselle Bundchen is on the cover. Ms. Tom Brady gave birth six weeks before these photos were taken and looks amazing. I have never given birth and still don't look anywhere near this good. I will definitely be taping these photos to my fridge for motivation. If anyone needs me, I'll be at the gym! Or throwing myself off a cliff!

I heard about this photo shoot with Gisele! I totally agree with you, I haven't given birth either and I KNOW I will not look like that six weeks later!!!

I have given birth and still carry a few of my baby kilos with pride 12 and 7 years later. Damn those genetically blessed supermodels. A-M xx

I have given birth and 6 weeks later I looked EXACTLY THE SAME as the day I gave birth!!!! It took a GD year to get back in shape!

I watched that Kendra show on the plane last night, and 6 weeks after she gave birth, she also looked like a fatty. So there is some consolation for you!

Oh - on another note - at first glance I thought that cover as from the early 1990s (despite Giselle being on it). Weird, right?? What is she wearing???

Are you sure they didn't alter these photos??? So many are. Yeah, that's got to be it--PLEASE!!!! Let it be altered!

Obviously, Gisele doesn't know about "9 months up, 9 months down"! I guess with a personal trainer, chef, nutritionist and perhaps a nanny I could have looked like that about giving birth - but then again, I didn't before!

Let me make you feel better: a good friend of mine is part of the "air brush team" for Vogue. Gisele's midsection, her arm in the sleeve, a bit of her hip on each side, AND her neck (yes, neck) are all airbrushed, trimmed down and smoothed out. Not to mention the minor touch-ups on skin, etc.

No doubt, she is gorgeous and slim after 6 weeks, but she's not super human. And neither should we try to be.

I bet she doesn't have the sense of humor you do!

She looks amazing! What inspiration. Thanks for the heads up about the magazine. I'll looking forward to picking a copy up as well.

Thank you GirlGoesGlobal for the dose of much needed reality. Gisele may look thin but those clothes look like a Sophia Loren wannabe from days gone by. Maybe some day we'll see a photo of her binging on Easter candy from her kids basket a week later like the rest of us ;p

All I can say is, if I were being paid $1M-plus to look like that, with trainers and nutritionists at my fingertips, then I would look like that. Oh, and DNA helps too. I don't fit into either category, so I think I'll go have a muffin!

It wouldn't just take a bit of air brushing to get me looking look this---we'd be talking serious cropping! Thanks for the summer thinspiration : ) XO Katie

She looks gorgeous, of course! Can't wait to get this issue too.

I would like to think that if my job was to look this good, that I'd work as hard at looking good as I do at my actual job where I work hard every day. In the meantime, I'm working on my food baby!

There is no away this be true. This is a big fat lie!!!

Not to worry--that is one top notch photographer!!! That is all we need: a great photographer to makes us all gorgeously skinny. You already have the class! Have a wonderful trip to SC. Mary

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I don't think that pool looks deep enough to dive into. Infinity-edge pools usually aren't, right? She could've broken her airbrushed neck!

I was looking at this online last night. The style of Patrick's photographs here are reminiscent of his style in the early 2000's, and often featuring Gisele. There is something that is clean and invigorating about them!

american vogue just doesn't have the love for us curvy girls quite like the italians do...italian vogue's new website http://www.vogue.it/en/vogue-curvy is awesome! and i still say most of the folks they call 'plus-size' are actually just normal!

Do not lament -- you are a total babe, HC, and are smart and fun. Can't photoshop that! Have fun in LA. West Coast rules, esp. Wash. State. (It is a state.) xo,

I am so over American Vogue... the italians know what they're doing. They've got curvy issues and even their black issue which in 2008 was the highest grossing Vogue EVER. I'm glad the Europeans understand that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and colors too! I refuse to punish myself or kill myself to attain some ridiculous standard of beauty that I've never been - even when I was much thinner. I personally strive for my own standard of beauty - Nuclear Wintour's photo-shopped and airbrushed version can kiss my curvy behind.

I come to shed some much-needed light on this issue: I work with models every day. It's a body type - you're either born with it, or you're not. So stop being depressed because you don't look like Gisele! You probably never will and that is NOT a bad thing in the slightest; just focus on being the best YOU that you can be and you'll always look AND feel great :)

Don't jump off a cliff! who's gonna write the blog??? :)

Sometimes when we compare its because we fail to see the beauty in ourselves. When I realized that its when I stopped comparing myself to others. Put YOUR picture on the fridge darling, you are gorgeous just as you are! if you would like to see yourself different then go for it, the only person you need to compare yourself with is with your previous self, not anyone else :)
