Slow Love

I had the pleasure of attending the book party last night for Slow Love: How I Lost My Job, Put On My Pajamas & Found Happiness by Dominique Browning and I suggest that you immediately buy this sweet read. For those of you who don't know, Ms. Browning was editor in chief of House & Garden magazine and in November 2007 she had four days to pack up her office when the publisher decided to close the beloved shelter magazine. As the title suggests, she had to come to terms with this sudden change to her life among others and I think this is something to which many of us can relate! I started reading the Prologue and was immediately hooked. I have a feeling that I'm going to make Slow Love a very quick read this weekend! Also make sure you check out Dominique's new blog Slow Life Love too! Happy Reading!

Oooooh this book sounds fantastic! I think I may have read an interview with her somewhere... and her attitude about it really stuck with me, but then I remembered parts of the story, but couldn't remember who it was... so thank you for sharing... I'm really excited to add this to the reading list!

It's so funny you're posting about this today, because just last night I was at Barnes & Noble and randomly picked up this book based on the title - I had never heard of it before. Can't wait to read it!

Heather - You will love this book! I read her first book and loved and I was a devoted reader of all her editorials. She is thoughtful and really smart. She always goes to the root of issues, addressing the real psychology behind why we decorate our homes and why it's important to our lives. She wrote the most amazing column, if I remember correctly, following 9/11.

I'm off to call my locally owned bookstore to see if they have it in yet. Thanks for alerting us all to the fact that it has hit the stores.

Dominique Browning poured her heart and soul into House & Garden. Its pages dripped of inspiration and integrity. Just last weekend, I poured over copies from the 90's and nearly cried for missing it so.

What I would give to reclaim some of the discarded issues. If only I'd known.

Each month I would look forward to her editorial page for a glimpse of her insight and perspective. From her crystal like eyes, were musings on her garden, design and life in general.

I cannot wait to pick up a copy of 'Slow Love', and dream away at the notion House & Garden will one day return to the publishing world.

It was a friend 'gone too soon'. Thanks for the post!

For me, one of the most difficult aspects of loosing House and Garden was not connecting with Dominique Browning and her soul deep editorials. Thanks for showing me where she has landed. Have a great week-end!! Mary

This is definitely a great read - for someone who is looking for some encouragement to pick herself up from the ground.

I love it when "gold comes from garbage", and if H & G had remained in business, we would not have been graced by Dominique's book or her blog. Now we can follow her with each post and not have to wait for a new issue to come out. I'm sure she's looked back to see how something so painful put her on a new creative track, and be grateful for it. We all will.

She was the only reason I subscribed to the magazine - the letter from the editor posts were always so lovely. Can't wait to read the book.

THANK YOU EVERYONE--both for this lovely and gracious post, and for all your comments about the magazine. I miss it so, but blogging at SLOW LOVE LIFE has been a great way for me to find that columnist's voice again. I'm late to the blogging party (was hiding under a rock) but I'm delighted to be out and about again, if only on the Internet! Many thanks for your support; I can't tell you how much it means. d
