Equestrian Chic

One of my readers asked me if I had any advice on how to display a saddle in a home. I could only come up with one photo of a saddle sitting on a stair banister since I think most riders keep their saddles in the tack room. I did however find lots of homes with riding boots lined up and other riding accoutrements on full display. Enjoy!

Love the Badgley Mischka house...I looked at these some time ago for inspiration for my own home, although without the strong riding influence. You can never go wrong with riding boots as a fab accent...thanks for all the pics!

The Badgley Mischka house is stunning! My aunt has a saddle on the stair rail in her lake house...next time I'm up there, I'll snap a pic and send it your way. Thanks for this fun post!

Oddly enough I have the same predicament. I own a beautiful old English saddle I'd love to display unfortunately don't have a banister to use.

Thank you SO much! Loved this post!
I think I loved the final Amanda Harlech photo the most, but they are all great.

Once I get my act together, I will try to send a photo of the finished project.

I remain, one very delighted HC fan, C.

Coming from a family of equestriennes, this always has been, and still remains, one of my favorite, favorite, FAVORITE looks (sadly, I am allergic to horses- BOO!). This might be the first time I saved every single image to my "ideas for later" folder. Nicely done - great post!

my friends own a big country house and there has been a saddle thrown over the open door leading from the back hall into the kitchen for as long as I can remember. I always thought it looked great, if your ceilings are tall enough

It is worth it to find a way to display something you love as in the saddle owned by commenter paperjunk-lc. It would be lovely in a library, tossed across the back of a barstool or hung on a brass rod made just for that purpose.
Beautiful pics and great post.

I don't know......... the look is fantastic, but riding boots (if they are actually used for riding) go hand-in-hand with horse s___. I can't imagine using riding boots and shoes as decorative accents, except in a mud room. Horse paintings, photos, prints, engravings and tack are in a different scent category. (I used to ride daily) Mary

Yes, I'm all for keeping riding boots in a utility room too, along with dog bowls etc, etc.

Heather, I have my saddle at home (I no longer ride and couldn't stand to part with it). It straddles a small bench in my guest bedroom. I have my favorite bridle hanging on a corner of the mirror and my boots by the mantel! Love this post - thanks!

I too, have a restored old saddle (restored by my father- a true cowboy!) displayed over a loft rail in my log home. I also have a display of my son's cowboy boots from over the years...one bigger than the next as he grew. As for those who are a little put off by the idea of boots in the home, I assure you that mine were thoroughly cleaned of all horse manure before displaying them, as I'm sure all designers using boots would do. As for a different way to display your saddles, I've seen custom made wooden sawhorses (typically used in construction) that are beautifully finished and allow you to display your saddle proudly in any room of the home. I loved the suggestion of a brass bar/pole to hang it on, too!

That tack room is to die for. Makes me a little teary eyed. Just had my third and hopefully final surgery on my arm I broke in a riding accident a few years ago. Has that kept me out of the saddle...no way.

Love the orange and black motif. I remember that Badgley Mischa spread.

Spent all weekend at horse shows, tend to keep the tack out of the house as it smells up the place, but it looks so good! Love the post! Thanks!

Amanda Harlech rings most true to these eyes, a real lifestyle, not decoration.
