Parisians: An Adventure History of Paris

There is nothing I love more than wandering around a book store searching for a story that is as compelling as its cover and Parisians: An Adventure History of Paris is one of my new favorite finds. Some of the Parisians are famous such as Marie Antoinette and Charles de Gaulle while others could be better described as infamous but all the stories center around the most important character, the city itself. The architecture and monuments and newly created Haussmann streets have a profound effect on all the Parisians profiled including Proust and Zola. Definitely pick it up! C'est magnifique!

This looks like an amazing book. My husband and I want to go to France for our 30th anniversary.

I think I must be the only person in the world who doesn't love Paris! The south of France has my vote and my heart, but I do love this cover.

Looks like a lovely book! I love that there's a gargoyle on the cover.

Heather,
I have not had the opportunity to visit Paris, but after your vacation there last year, I was inspired to start planning. Just yesterday I closed a deal at work that means I can finally afford to enjoy a week in Paris this fall. Your post today is just another sign telling me to make the reservations already!!

Thanks for the recommendation! I had not heard of this book yet, but I've just added it to my to-read list on Goodreads! Thanks!

This is a stunning cover...do you know who the gentleman is standing behind the gargoyle?

Have this book in my pile of "to reads" and am looking forward to reading it. I read his earlier book (about greater France and its history...a lot of unusual new knowledge in that book). My daughter looked at the cover of this book and said, "I've stood there" recalling our visit to Notre Dame in Paris last June. So much history in Paris.
