Cocteau's Chic Abode

I don't really need another reason to visit Paris again but I've found one anyway. Jean Cocteau's home at Milly-la-Forêt is now open to the public for tours. Cocteau lived in the home, an hour outside Paris, from 1947 until his death in 1963. Pierre Bergé acquired the property in 2002 and spearheaded the renovation of the home and gardens which will also allow visitors to view artwork and films. Cocteau once said, "Art produces ugly things which frequently become more beautiful with time." I don't think his house was ever ugly, but it certainly has become more beautiful with time!

Love the last picture a sphinx with ladies bust. Intriguing, and it is great. Leopard is cool too on the desk area.

What an enchanting home...it fits what one would think his personality was to a T., just beautiful!
The rooms look very dark and cool too don't they, perfect place to ride out a heat wave! ;)

The wallcoverings are exquisite! And the grounds look so inviting-- like you've stepped back in time. Thanks, Heather!

What a find. You have outdone yourself! Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite films.

Beautiful home. But I'm surprised at how traditional it is vis-a-vis Cocteau's varied works--from film, paintings, jewelry to textiles, he was anything but traditional. thanks. Mary
