Do you display Christmas cards?

Growing up, my mother used to display Christmas cards along a ribbon along a door frame.  The cards were held up by tiny little red clothes pins.  Those were the days when you would receive a pile of cards everyday in the mail.  Fewer people send out cards these days so I feel like I should be respectful of the ones I do receive.  Right now they are sitting in a tray but I'm thinking about how else I can display them.  I've found these options online including Martha Stewart's chic tree above.  Do you display Christmas cards?  If so, how do you do it?  Sometimes I feel like all the traditionas that I grew up with are going to be extinct soon.

Hi Heather-
My mom used to hang the cards on the door with ribbon and red clothespins too. I guess that was the thing to do back then. I do the same thing, but don't have the red clothspins - I use hot glue.

We are not displaying ours at all this year but I really wish we were! Next year we have to do something cute with them...

I finally found the way of displaying the Christmas cards. December issue of Martha Stewart Living inspired me to make a Pinup Wreath using an embroidery hoop and clothes pins. I am thrilled with the way it turned out!

These are all great ideas, Heather. I think I love the branches most. The tray is also beautiful, especially with the tiny bit of the colorful painting shining through.
I hope that you are having a festive and merry weekend.

I keep them in a large, low Chinese bowl on the kitchen counter. People love digging through it as they visit!

I'm loving the branches in the first photo but my display is closer to the second photo. You're right, far fewer people are sending out cards as time goes by which disappoints me. Oh, the good ol' days!

I tend to favor the Southern Accents way. We have ours in a wooden bowl in the family room. I save the photo cards from year to year, and it is so much fun to see how friends' children have grown (and how we have aged!). Merry Christmas!

I'm mourning the demise of Christmas cards, every year there are fewer and fewer. I have always kept them in a wooden bowl and love to keep the photos. I cut them up for gift tags for the next year.

I choose several to put on my Decorative Card and Photo Display (Willow House) and the rest go into a sleigh shaped basket I got years ago... it sits on our coffee table and we sift through them all the time. Hope the old-fashioned snail mail cards never go away completely. :)

i typically display them nestled on branches of the christmas tree! it's a fun way to add even more cheer to the charlie brown tree in our apartment :-) and a lot of personalization.

I run two wide gross grain ribbons down either side of our fireplace mantle, and then pin the cards onto these, once the top of the mantle is full. Such a fun post, and fun reading the other comments as well!

I usually just scatter them on the surface of my coffee table. My gran-mother did it that way and so does my mother. I'm amazed at how old some of these cards are, dating back as far as 1966.

I loved this post as well, I love Martha's Tree very nice.

My Christmas cards are in a bowl, but I love these display ideas! I may have to adopt one. Merry Christmas, Heather.

I have tried various ways to display the cards over the years. I've hung them on a felt holder with pockets, I've taped them to my door, used a fake mailbox to have them stuffed in- many different ways. One of your your pictures from Martha Stewart inspired me and I came up with a plan and hung them today. I posted it on my blog.
Happy Holidays, Liz

I have found this article (www.lamarquesa.es/?p=2360) published one day later than yours, I will always prefer yours. Merry Xmas.

Years ago I bought wide red satin ribbons and stitched little gold paperclips to it about every three or four inches. We hang these ribbons inside the sides of the arch that leads from the entry hall to the living room, and as cards arrive, I slip them into the clips. It makes a nice way to arrive and depart (through a portal of cards) and I get to look at them as I come and go through the day.
