Divine Downton Abbey

If you're not watching Downton Abbey, you are missing out.  It is the best show on television right now and I'm obsessed.  It already aired in the UK and can currently be seen Sunday nights on PBS here in the States.  I was wondering why it reminded me of Gosford Park and then I realized it was also written by award winning author Julian Fellowes.  It's essentially an upstairs/downstairs period piece with enough drama to keep it interesting.  Of course, the best parts are the costumes and interiors.  Highclere Castle stands in for Downton Abbey and you can check out the interiors and grounds on their website and even arrange a tour. The episodes are also available on iTunes and DVD.  If anyone needs me Sunday night, I'll definitely be watching Downton Abbey!

I just saw this on Tuesday and was wondering if it was worth watching. Thanks for posting this! I think I'll give it a shot!

I'm obsessed with this show. Episode 2 was such a surprise; I did NOT see that coming. It's comforting to have Masterpiece theatre when we're trapped inside during the cold weather.

Brittany, it's playing in Canada on PBS if you can get it, Sundays 9pm Eastern.

I cheated and asked someone in England how it ended. I just couldn't wait to find out how it ends.

And, don't miss Maggie Smith, as the
Dowager Countess of Grantham, for a bit of British humor!

Isn't it divine! My husband worked on it so if you want some inside details( without giving away the story!) sent me an e-mail. fun, fun, fun. we (in the UK) have already seen it, DYING for next episode!

I have been desperate for a new show to watch...Thank goodness it is on iTunes - Japanese TV is unbearable and they haven't picked up a new American show in ages!

bluebadgerbaby must keep quiet!

YES, what a great program, we watch and love it! I suffer too many "chickflix" with the exception of this.

However, once again I am torn whether to spread the word or keep something so good to ourselves.

I've faithfully watched Downton Abbey for the last couple of weeks (airing on Sundays in Texas). I've read Julian Fellowes' novels, and the dialogue is as equally biting and witty as his screen plays.

Long live Dame Maggie Smith!

My husband and I love this show!!! The characters are wonderful and engaging and the storyline and characters are not predictable...if you watched last week's show you'll know what I mean----who say THAT coming?! Fabulous snaps of the show, I think I was born in the wrong time, I love the women's style!
Thanks for a great post!

Isn't Downton Abby a dream of a series! What fun to see Maggie Smith and Elizabeth McGovern in such an elegant story. I sets, costumes, decorative design is absolute perfection. I have downloaded the first two so I can watch them again. Between this and the elegance of The King's Speech, I think I need to read Henry James during this snowy winter. Your photographs are lovely and a wonderful representation of the deliciousness of this series.

It DOES remind me of Gosford Park, except I can watch this every week! How wonderful!

Love this show and hate it when the episode ends. No one does it better than the English.

Am so glad its a hit in the USA, as there was a lot of talk that it might not go down so well. Which I did not understand why, as it is brilliant, we would all run home to watch it and then talk about it non stop.

It is one of the best series made in a long time, storyline , acting, costumes, setting.
They are doing the second series and hopefully it will be a couple of episodes longer.

Hurray for Downton Abbey!
