Candice Bergen is one actress who has aged gracefully. After seeing these photos from the late 1960's and early 1970's, it's easy to see why. She grew up in Beverly Hills, California with a model mother and her father Edgar Bergen who was an actor, comedian, and ventriloquist. Candice also modeled for high fashion magazines like Vogue while also pursuing an acting career. She starred in her second film The Sand Pebbles with Steve McQueen. Of course, most people these know her from Murphy Brown and Sex and the City. It's too bad that today's young actresses don't look this wholesome and timeless. Enjoy!

gorgeous, i love all of these old photos of her. i think brooklyn decker actually kind of looks a little like her, in a less natural way though.
Heather. Have you read her autobiography KNOCK WOOD. It's a great read! All best, M.
She was so great looking, and still is! Such a natural beauty--a true California girl.
utterly gorgeous...in the most natural and healthy way!! xx meenal
Thanks for bringing attention to a lady of real class and intelligence besides great style. Love her and this post! So nice not to see the same tired celebrities. Keep up your wonderful blog. You are truly inspiring!
I've never seen these photos. They are all just beautiful. I love the interior photo with the white couches, ethnic print pillow and rocks on the coffee table.... Hmmmm what is the definition of timeless ? What is the drfinition of classic ? Please let us know, Heather! Thank you for another beautiful post to start my morning with. ~ C
She is a beauty and these photos are so classic and chic.
I love these posts of yours! You find some great images of a favourite icon - I love it! I particularly love how simple her style is in the candid shots. Beautiful.
She is a true beauty like Grace Kelly. Her autobiography is great even if very sad at times. Her husband, Louis Malle, was also one of my favorite directors.
Candice Bergin was surely the ultimate California Girl.
All the others pale in comparison to her.
I don't know that I'd ever really seen her looking "young." Great shots. Thanks for sharing.

OMG how gorgeous was/is she!! Wow pure stunning beauty...those shots of her younger and au natural are just beautiful beyond words and of course she has aged into a super graceful and classy lady...loved her for so long and always will...a class act!
I hate to say this, but I've never seen any of those photos or any others of her as a younger woman. She's really beautiful and, yes, reminds me of Grace Kelly as well.
What a wonderful post! She is truly a great natural beauty!
If you can imagine; she was one year ahead of me at Westlake School when I was in 4th grade! And she was just as nice as she was pretty!
And, probably very telling; her mother was lovely, warm and beautiful! She was very friendly and darling to all the girls. (I was only there for one year!)
I have never forgotten either of them!
So so beautiful. I love Candice Bergen. Hope you're having a good week, Nicolex
sooooooo timeless and stunning! and she still is!
I hadn't seen most of these before-- what a treat! She was lovely then and is still a great beauty.
I saw her not that long ago in Bergdorf's. She's still stunning!
I think that the 1970 Vernon Merritt photo is Peggy Lipton...not sure. Beautiful post, however....k
Such stunning pictures! I love the one's of her on the horse.

Any idea as to a source for the leafy fabric on those couches? (I'm referring to the Michael Mauney photos from 1970).
What a classic beauty with such style ad sophistication! Nice post!
I really enjoyed this post, thank you. I think she is so beautiful, always have.
Just stunning!!
Candice is a true beauty. She is one of the few women who looks more beautiful with a fresh face than with makeup. Sigh.
You're right, she is so Chic! I adore these photos...
Loved the pictures especially the dress. Where did you get it from would love to have it in my personal photos? Thanks!
In some pics she reminds me Aerin Lauder!
She has a classic beauty about her that is not contrived. All of these images are gorgeous and her eyes - absolutely hypnotic. Thank you for pulling these all together. I could agree more with the title - timeless chic. I will never forget her advice about shoes - no matter what your clothes cost, a quality pair of shoes take the entire ensemble up a few notches. Wise and sound advice.
