Italian Inspiration

I happened to be shopping at J.Crew over the weekend.  (What else is new right?)  While flipping through the new catalog I came across Part III of their Made in Italy series.  It was especially interesting because it dealt with their trip to Ratti and Canepa mills in Como, Italy and perfect timing since I had just posted about textile designer Sonia Delauney.  There used to be many mills in Italy but much production has moved to China so it's comforting to know that J.Crew is supporting these old Italian mills.  I especially loved their look into the archives at Canepa and the artisans painting the prints at Ratti.  I highly recommend watching the accompanying video.  I'm off to figure out how I can get myself invited on the next trip! Ciao!

Sigh! Oh I have a J Crew obsession and love these photos! I want to come next time too! Jenna Lyons is also a style icon! If only they had J Crew here in Asia!

I started protesting "made in China" when "most favored" was granted to China--to see a company stand up to support national manufacturing whether it be Italian, American, French or Japanese over the cop-out of bottom-line decision making makes me want to run over to J.Cew right this moment, but it is still dark outside.

Great images and more importantly that J. Crew (and you) are supporting keeping businesses thriving in Italy! I found the same with ceramics in Italy - all of the factories are going out of business and everything is moving to China...so sad. I hope you get the chance to go on the next trip - how cool would that be??!!!

I haven't been able to find one thing in JCrew that it's made in China, so this post confuses me--maybe it's in the women's collection and not the men's. Yes, the sell Red Wing shoes and Barbour coats, but those aren't JCrew clothes, even the Levi jeans seem to be made in China.
