Made in the Shade

While we're on the subject of window treatments, I thought it would be fun to take a look at my favorite type. They are referred to a few different ways from bamboo blinds to matchstick shades but the result is always the same: chic and simple. The best part is that they work in a wide variety of rooms and look just as great alone as they do framed by beautiful drapes.  Actually, if you plan to use them in a bedroom, it helps to also hang drapes with a black out lining since the shades usually don't completely shut out the light.  I know this because the sunshine filters through mine and wakes me up in the morning. Enjoy!

I find the first picture very cozy! Although it is simple, the design is very elegant-looking! I am in search for designs because I am planning for a living room makeover. This will surely revive the plain real estate Denver look of my pad. Thanks for sharing this post!

I love these blinds. I have used them in projects and have actually lined them with blackout lining. It does keep the light from coming through and doesn't really change the look that drastically.

Love the first picture as well. I just love the bamboo shades in tortoise shell and the black trim gives them a finished and elegant look. Still can't get over the wallpaper hung upside down in the Ellie Somerville picture - that would just drive me CRAZY!

Wonderful assembling of photos. This is one of those details that, until it's pointed out to me, I didn't realize was such a common thread in interior design photos that I admire. They really are fabulous!

Bamboo blinds are an excellent way to bring texture to a room. I love they way they look against white curtains. Thank you for sharing such beautiful photos.

When I bought my house, the seller had put in bamboo blinds in every window just 6 months before. I was thrilled. After 5 years I have to replace 2 of them. Any suggestions on finding matching blinds? There are so many varieties.

Great post. I want to replace some of my cellular shades with woven woods especially in the living room.

Love these - they go w/anything and everything! I've had great luck over the years w/Smith & Noble catalog for these and they offer black-out as well as privacy liners. Fast delivery.

Thank you for this post! These blinds truly are simple and chic. I've thought about putting these up many times. This might just be the weekend I finally make it happen. Perfect timing in preparation for all the glorious summer sunlight.

I adore the look of matchstick blinds in a room, but I have the problem of living by the ocean (real serious problem, huh?!?) and things get moldy, including my brand new blinds. Any suggestions???
